Exploring the Operations Room with the Campaign: Issue Comparison Tool

The One Million Community Health Workers (1mCHW) Campaign is happy to introduce its next expansion of our Operations Room Phase 2 launch—the Issue Comparison Tool. Like the Data Explorations Tool, the Issue Comparison Tool features a compelling and functionally accessible map. New features, such as the drop-down menus, enable users to select an indicator of interest and use the map to compare different indicators in a particular region or sub-region of interest. The Issue Comparison Tool allows users to simply zoom in or out of the 3-panels of maps to view 3 different national or sub-national indicator data and view the CHW organizations in that area.

The list of countries and organizations on the left toolbar allows users to quickly access countries and organizations on the map.

The Issue Comparison Tool contains linked survey data to country-specific demographic, epidemiological, and health indicator datasets at national and sub-national levels. Users can compare different indicators (total fertility rate, under-five mortality rate, population under-five, number of women in child-bearing age) in the same geographical locations. For example, in the animated GIF below, we’re looking at the number of children under-five, total fertility rate, and number of women in childbearing age in Burkina Faso.

Users can select health issues via a drop-down menu on each map panel.

The scope of the Issue Comparison Tool expands beyond health issues in just one selected country at a time. The graphs at the bottom of each map allow us to compare the selected health issues in neighboring countries as well.

Hovering over the bars on each graph reveals specific numbers from each dataset.

We envision that the Issue Comparison Tool will be helpful for assessing the need for CHW programs in particular locations. Visit the Operations Room to explore the Issue Comparison Tool! As we continue to improve the Issue Comparisons Tool with our Operations Room Advisory Group, more health issue datasets will become available.
