CHW Home Visit: Malaria Case

In the video above you met Shallon. She is a CHW in the MVP Ruhiira Cluster. Here we get to see her at work helping a child with fever symptoms. She test the child for Malaria and the results are positive. Unfortunately, the baby’s condition worsened. The mother contacted Shallon and was immediately taken to the health center where the baby received treatment. After three days, all is well and the baby is quite healthy. Shallon will continue to monitor this child to make sure that he becomes a strong and healthy boy.

How to make your own hand washing facility

CHWs often do sanitation inspections and help families build hand washing facilities. Hand washing is an important part of preventing diseases such as diarrhea and pneumonia. Watch this video of CHW Winnie teaching a whole community how to build their own, you might be inspired to try it!

Community Health Worker Shallon does a Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) for Malaria–UNCUT

We were able to follow CHWs as they visited homes in the Ruhiira cluster of the Millennium Villages Project. We have met Sharon before in the video above, this time we see her in action. She was called to a home because of a sick baby. Once a baby is said to have a fever the first thing a CHW does is test for Malaria. In this case the child did have malaria. And while Sharon waited for the results she inspected the family’s bed net and spoke to them about bed net usage. Two days after this was filmed, Sharon follows up to make sure the baby is doing better.
