One Million Community Health Workers

Operationalization of the Community Health Extension Worker Strategy

June 2016 marked the launch of the Campaign’s support to Uganda’s Ministry of Health in the operationalization of the Community Health Extension Worker strategy. The Campaign hosted a stakeholders meeting, the first of its kind, which brought together various partners to review the status of the developed strategy and agree upon implementation plans, resource mapping and a coordination mechanism. The Campaign will be supporting the development of the CHEW guidelines, manuals and job aids, as well as the development of an electronic registry for management of the CHEWs. In addition, the Campaign will be supporting the MOH in the national launch of the CHEW program and resource mobilization for the CHEW rollout.

Use of mHealth by CHWs in Karamoja

The Campaign has been supporting the Karamoja Drylands Integrated Development Project with the use of m-Health by CHWs. The Campaign team has been working on the preliminary steps to the launch including local IRB applications, budgeting, setting up of the CommCare platform, procurement of equipment, and preparation for training.
